Never underestimate the farce. Once again, Sunny
Deol wags a menacing finger at the Establishment,
gnashes a set of perfectly pearly teeth and breaks
the sound barrier with an array of yowls and
howls. If you're a glutton for punishment, sure,
go ahead and unmake your day. Zor, directed by Sangeeth Sivan, wants you to believe that Sunny is a crusading journalist (ha!) aiming his pen and more against terrorists, politicians and godfellas of the abysmal kind. Give us a break, please! Quite shapeless and senseless, this watchamacallit is abundant proof of the poverty of ideas afflicting the action flicks of apna Mumbai. Mercifully, the actresses seem to be doing a better job than the gents on the scene. Sushmita Sen comes across as a cool, confident artiste, despite her higgeldy-piggeldy role of a fledgling reporter. Her Hindi diction and dialogue delivery are especially remarkable. Surely, this heroine of mettle deserves a far better deal that this thoroughly inept enterprise, which should have been titled Kamzor. |
