THAKSHAK Cast: Ajay Devgan, Tabu, Rahul Bose and Amrish Puri Director: Govind Nihalani Music: A.R. Rahman Rating: * * |
Parallel film-maker Govind Nihalani's attempt in popular film-making is not as successful as his previous one. One can feel the absence of Nihalani's touch which is there in his previous film. Another negative point is the selection of the story. This story (on crime and criminals) has been repeated many times. Again there are some unwanted songs and dances which do not fit in with the story. Sunny (Rahul Bose) is heir to his grandfather (Ravi Patwardhan) who is an underworld don. Sunny's loyal friend is Ishaan (Ajay Devgan). Ishaan is son of Narsimha (Amrish Puri) who used to work for Sunny's grandfather. Ishaan falls in love with classical dancer Suman (Tabu). Suman hates violence. She recites her poetries to Ishaan and in interaction with Suman, he wants to leave the world of crime. But his loyalty towards Sunny comes in between. The film lacks a realistic touch. Screenplay needs much improvement. However, the camera-work of Nihalani is just superb. Ajay Devgan is good in his role. Rahul Bose steals the show. He gives a splendid performance In the role of a ruthless criminal. His facial expressions are good. Tabu has nothing substantial to do. The film does have one good song sung by Asha Bhosale Rang De.
