MELA

Cast: Aamir Khan, Twinkle Khanna, Faizal Khan
Director: Dharmesh Darshan
Music: Anu Malik
Rating: * *

Dharmesh Darshan's Mela has been highly inspired by Carvaan and Sholay. It is fact that Aamir Khan who is choosy of the kind of films he does also can make mistakes and act in such a bad film.

Rupa's (Twinkle Khanna) brother (Ayub Khan) is killed by a deadly terrorist Gujjar (Tinnu Verma). Rupa wants to take revenge of her brother's death. She takes the help of two friends -- Kishan Pyare (Aamir Khan) who is a nautankiwala and truck driver Shankar (Faisal Khan). Shankar is silent and stubborn and Kishan is of flirtatious nature. Kishan falls in love with Rupa and Rupa also acts as if she is in love with Kishan but her only aim is revenge. Shankar takes the place of Rupa's dead brother. Now both of them help Rupa to take her revenge.

Aamir Khan is the only saving grace of the film. As usual he has given a good performance within the limited scope of the character. Faisal's role didn't demand any complexity. Twinkle Khanna had a big role. But she still has a long way to go to prove her talents. Her voice has been dubbed to give authenticity to the role but that also didn't help. Tinnu Verma's character was inspired by Gabbar Singh of Sholay but he is not even half as impressive.

There are some crude comedy scenes which are for the front benchers. Music is not very great except for a couple of songs. Direction is poor and is in no way comparable to Dharmesh Darshan's previous film Raja Hindustani.
