![]() REVIEW Mann is an intense love story. Aamir Khan plays the role of a Casanova who has broken many hearts. He just can't love anybody seriously. His modus operandi is to chase females till he is in bed with them. He is in a mess of debts hinging over him. To get out of this mess he plans to marry a daughter of a rich tycoon Singhania (Dalip Tahil). Singhania's daughter (Deepti Bhatnagar) is all set to marry Dev. Everyone is waiting for Dev to come. But where is Karan Dev Singh? He is in Singapore living life extravagantly with females falling all over him charmed by his innocent looks & panache. He decides to go back to India in an ocean liner called Sun cruise, for it stops at an island where his grandmother lives. Well, folks! Does this remind you of something? Yes the Hollywood classic 'An affair to remember'. Dev meets Priya (Manisha Koirala) on the cruise. As usual Dev starts luring her but his efforts are all futile. Dev finds Priya a hard nut to crack and both decide to become pals. Dev takes Priya to meet his grandmother (Sharmila Tagore) and slowly but steadily the friendship starts blossoming into love. Priya is an orphan who is indebted by favors done by someone whom she is getting married to soon. His fiancée is, Surprise! Surprise! Anil Kapoor as Mr. Raj. Both Dev & Priya are obligated to marry someone whom they do not love. The cruise reaches Bombay harbour and they decide not to meet each other until the Valentines Day. Dev breaks away from Anita but it is not so easy for Priya. On the day of the reckoning Priya fails to turn up. How they finally meet is very well conceived of in the climax of the film, which is just excellent. The film has the potential to be another feather in the cap for the accomplished director Indra Kumar. His direction is good and the climax is something all directors dream of. The director has done well to avoid the temptation of doing a 'Titanic' in the first half. The music by the debutant duo Sanjeev Darshan is melodious. Acting wise everyone is so competent that it is hard to pick up one sole performer. Kudos to Aamir Khan & Manisha Koirala for their immense chemistry in emotional scenes. The only drawback of the film is that it's a bit dragging at some stages. The Editor would have been much better off by chopping some scenes in the editing room. The second half is more heavy & emotional. The film has lot of similarities to 'An affair to remember' still the film is something to remember with the twists and surprises stored in for you. The film is worth seeing once though many may not find repetitive value in the film. Songs of Mann 1. Mera Mann 2. Tinak Tin Tana 3. Nasha Yeh Pyar Ka 4. Chaha Hai Tujhko 5.
