The team who gave us Vaastav is now back with Kurukshetra. The story of Kurukshetra is on the same lines of Vaastav -- crime, corruption, working together of corrupt politicians and underworld dons. The only difference is that in the previous film the hero (Sanjay Dutt) was on the side of the criminals and this time he is with the law.

ACP Prithviraj Singh (Sanjay Dutt) is an honest cop for whom duty is above everything. As a result of his honesty, in his career span of 10 years he has been transferred 14 times. Wherever he goes he shakes the roots of underworld and is not only disliked by the criminals but also his fellow police who are corrupt. Prithvi also leads a happy life with his wife Anjali (Mahima Chaudhary) and sister Aarti.

When Prithvi arrests the son of Chief Minister Baburao Deshmukh (Om Puri) in a rape case, he is pressurised to drop the case and is even suspended for a death in custody. Now the Opposition party leader Sambhajirao (Shivaji Satam) wants to play the power game. The battle begins between the CM and the police. In this game not only the police officer's life is in danger but also his family does not escaped from the torture.

The film is mainly from the angle of the honest police officer. Mahesh Manjrekar has managed to extract excellent performances from his star cast. Sanjay Dutt is very good. With this film, Sanjay Dutt has strengthened his position in emotional and hard-hitting roles. Given a good role with a good director, Sanjay surely can give the finest of performances. Om Puri as a corrupt minister is brilliant. He looks every inch of that character. Even Shivaji Satam has given a very good performance. In a small role of a corrupt constable Sayaji Shinde manages to leave a mark in the audience's mind. Mahima Chaudhary is a good actress. Mukesh Rishi in the role of a criminal who later starts respecting Prithvi also impresses. Even though Mahima has a very small and weak role, she manages to impress especially in the emotional scenes with Sanjay Dutt.

The story is a rehash of many old films, but Mahesh Manjrekar does give some scenes which are hard-hitting and make you sit through the film. If more importance had been given to the story, the film would have been much better, Some unwanted songs are also added in the film. Overall a watchable film for the good performances.
