KHILADI 420

Cast: Akshay Kumar and Mahima Choudhary
Director: Neeraj Vora
Music: Sanjeev-Darshan
Rating: *

A directorial debut of Neeraj Vora, Khiladi 420 is an action and suspense drama. Neeraj Vora has tried so many twists in the film that towards the end, half of them are unresolved.

Dev (Akshay Kumar), a conman, is under heavy debts. To pay off his debts, he entraps a rich girl Ritu (Mahima Chaudhary). Dev then kills Ritu's father Bhardwaj (Alok Nath) making it look like a natural death and marries Ritu. But on the wedding night itself, Ritu comes to know the real killer of her father and in the tussle Dev is murdered by Ritu. To save Ritu from the murder charges enters Dev's twin brother Anand (Akshay Kumar). Then follow the routine court drams, action scenes, melodramas. There are many characters in the film, one of which is Rahul (Sudhanshu Pandey) who plays Ritu's childhood friend and the other is Dev's girlfriend (Antra Mali). The villains are played by Mukesh Rishi, Gulshan Grover and Sayaji Shinde).

Akshay Kumar is very good in the action scenes. He has done some death-defying stunts himself especially the one which is on the helicopter some 3000 feet high. However he is not good in emotional scenes. He needs to improve his dialogue delivery. Mahima Chaudhary has nothing to do; it is sad to see such talent wasted in a mindless film. Sudhanshu Pandey makes an impressive debut. He makes an impression in the short role. Antra Mali is there only for the sensous song.

Neeraj Vora has failed miserably in making a tight screenplay. He seemed very confused during the making of the film (with so many twists and turns) The court room scenes are poorly enacted. Music is average. An avoidable fare -- see it only if you are die-hard fans of Akshay Kumar's actions.
