A child changes the criminal to a good huma being -- this is the theme of the story of Jaanwar. Many good films have been made on this theme (Mere Lal, Nanha Farishta and Panha). However Jaanwar lacks that emotional touch.

Sultan (Shakti Kapoor), a criminal, adopts an orphan child and teaches him the tactics of crime. The child grows up to become a criminal, Badshah (Akshay Kumar), who robs and sells weapons. He always manages to escape from an honest police inspector Arjun Pradhan (Ashish Vidhyarthi). Badshah falls in love with a street dancer Sapna (Karisma Kapoor). He promises to marry her but because of the police he has to escape from there.

In a train accident Badshah gets an orphan child. His heart melts. He leaves the world of crime and starts a new life. He changes his name to Babu Lohar who is a blacksmith by profession. The child Raju (Aditya Kapadia) is able to change the beast's heart into a human. Now Babu's life revolves around Raju. Then comes the twist: Raju's real parents (Mohnish Behl-Shilpa Shetty) enter the scene. Sultan too needs Badshah and Sapna also wants to take revenge.

The story has nothing new to offer. Even the action scenes look old. The emotional touch is lacking in the film. Akshay Kumar is good in action scenes but is weak in emotional scenes. His get-up in the second half does not appeal. Karisma Kapoor has nothing much to do except dance. Shilpa Shetty also does not have much scope. The people who impress in the film are child artiste Aditya Kapadia and Ashish Vidhyarthi. The music has already become popular.
