Jaanam Samjha Karo

UrmilaJaanam Samjha Karo - What to understand my dear? There is nothing to understand. The film is a Cinderella like love story where Salman plays the rich brat and Urmila plays the poor Cinderella.

Urmila Matondkar is a club dancer (Chandini). The club is owned by Sadashiv Amrapurkar (Daniel). Urmila dances on the stage provocatively but clings to her chastity. The reason why Urmila has to work in a club is as usual to support her family.

Salman Khan (Rahul) is a grandson of a millionaire. His grandfather Mr. Mehra (Shammi Kapoor) is tired of Salman. Salman is carefree kind of a guy who likes chasing girls and in essence is a womaniser. Shammi Kapoor wants Salman to learn some Indian ethics and value Indian cultural beliefs.

Salman starts chasing Urmila who does not give him any positive response. Urmila wants to settle down in life by marrying someone who loves her and get out of the club. Only other way to get out of the dancing den is to become mistress of Sadashiv Amrapurkar.

Urmila accepts to do a show abroad and lands up in London. For some reason she is left stranded in this alien place. In the night some person tries to harass her and she runs away from him to bump into Salman. Wow! What a coincidence. Not only Salman but later his grandfather Shammi Kapoor also reaches London with Salman's secretary Jaspal Bhatti (Tubby) and friend Shakti Kapoor (Harry). When confronted about the woman who is living with Salman in his Hotel room Salman says she is his wife.

But Salman later rejects Urmila and goes back to his playboy image. Urmila finally does a show and returns back to India. Shammi Kapoor gives Salman a lot of pep talk and counsels him to go and marry Urmila. Salman comes to India and finds out that Urmila has signed a contract with Sadashiv. In the end after lot of action Urmila and Salman patch up.

The film lacks a good script. The young debut director Andaleb M. Sultanpuri (son of famous lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri) has a lot to learn. Music of Anu Malik is nothing great only the title song is worth humming. Visually the film is appealing with good picturisation and cinematography but overall the film lacks substance. Urmila Matondkar & Salman Khan look good in the film but acting wise there is noting spectacular about them. Jaspal Bhatti and Shammi Kapoor have done full justice to their roles. The film is just passable.
