The director of the film Nabhkumar Raju was
maestro Sooraj Barjatya's assistant during the time of Hum
Aapke Hai Kaun. While making his film Hum Tum Pe
Marte Hain he had the hangover of the all time hit HAHK.
So he had everything like HAHK -- two big adjacent houses
where love blossoms between the hero and heroine, family
values and not to forget a romance between the servants and
the doggies. The film revolves around two families staying in these two big houses. In one, stays a close knitted family consisting of a good-hearted father (Paresh Rawal), his wife (Himani Shivpuri), their son Rahul (Govinda) and of course a servant (Johnny Lever) and a male dog. The other house has an arrogant entrepreneur Devyani (Dimple Kapadia), her sister-in-law Radhika (Urmilla Matondkar), a child, a maid and a female dog. Devyani is a widow and she is not on talking terms with Rahul's family as she thinks his father has unlawfully seized her property. As expected, Rahul and Radhika fall in love. Their love is accepted by Rahul's family and his father think that Radhika is very lucky for him. Devyani does not like this proposal, in fact she wants Radhika to get married to her business partner Dhananjay (Nirmal Pandey). Then the film goes on and on till the hero meets the heroine (which one knows from the beginning). The script is poor and the screenplay is also bad. Direction is also poor. The student (Nabhkumar) does not even come to close to his guru's (Sooraj) talents. What this film lacks is the bonding which HAHK had. The only highlight of the film is Govinda's acting. This guy will try his best to make a drab scene watchable. Urmilla Matondkar only makes faces and is all the time decked up in the film. In no scene has she shown her talent. Dimple Kapadia is unsuited in the film. Nirmal Pandey is bad (looks-wise as well as performance-wise). Uttam Singh's music is good but is highly inspired by his previous film Dil To Pagal Hain. |
