After super successful films Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hai Koun...!, Sooraj Barjatya is back after 5 years with Hum Saath-Saath Hain. This time also, the film revolves around a big joint family embedded with Indian values and sentiments. The film also has the traditional glitzy and glamourous weddings, engagements, an anniversary and a fun-filled picnic. All the occasions are embellished with excellently choreographed songs. The first half of the film brings back the memories of Hum Aapke Hai Koun...! (but minus the elegance and charm of Madhuri Dixit).

The story revolves around Ram Kishanji (Alok Nath), a happy industrialist, staying in a huge mansion with his wife Mamta (Reema Lagoo) and three sons Vivek (Mohnish Bahl), Prem (Salman Khan) and Vinod (Saif Ali Khan). The three brothers also have a sister Sangeeta (Neelam) who is married to Anand (Mahesh Thakur) and has a little daughter. The other close members of the family are the mama-mami of the children (Ajit Vachchani and Himani Shivpuri) and Vivek's close friend Anwar (Shakti Kapoor).

The movie begins with Ram Kishanji and Mamta's marriage anniversary which is followed by Vivek's marriage to Sadhna (Tabu) who is the daughter of Ram Kishanji's business friend (Rajiv Verma). Then comes Prem's engagement to his childhood sweetheart Preeti (Sonali Bendre) who is the daughter of their family friend (Satish Shah) along with the romance between the younger son Vinod with Sapna (Karisma Kapoor) who stays with her father (Sadhasiv Amrapurkar) in Rampur. This is followed by a family picnic to Rampur, where Vinod is engaged to Sapna.

Then starts the twist and interesting part of the film (on the lines of a 90's Ramayan) when Vivek is given reins of the family business. Anand and Sangeeta are removed from their house by Anand's elder brother (Dilip Dhawan). This disturbs Mamta and to add to the tension some socialite friends (Jayshree T, Kalpana Iyer and Malika) of Mamta alongwith Sapna's father and brainwash Mamta against her elder step-son Vivek. She demands separation which Ram Kishanji refuses. Vivek as an obedient son leaves the house with his wife and goes and stays in Rampur.

Vinod goes with Vivek and Prem is given the responsibility of Managing Director. Finally all ends well. The morale of the story was that the world wanted their separation but the three brothers stood united. If the roots are strong no one can dare to shake them up.

The first half is full of songs and dances without a pause -- A treat to one's eyes. Then comes the gripping second half which highlights Sooraj's calibre. His direction is flawless. He is the director who knows the pulse of the audience. He chose the perfect story -- a story of every Indian family -- and gives it a perfect look and feel. All the characters in the film are very well defined (including their costumes, style and nature). The well knitted screenplay reflects 5 years of hard work by Sooraj Barjatya. There is nothing as such excess of any element in the film. Everything is just perfect. A commendable performance from all the stars. There is little less of Salman Khan who has given a very different performance having an innocent look and shy personality moving away from his usual style. He is adorable in this role. Saif Ali Khan attracts attention thanks to his cheerful and mischievous character. Mohnish Bahl also plays his part to perfection. Reema Lagoo and Neelam draw special attention.

The songs are excellently picturised though the music has not become as popular as expected. But the musics tends to grow on you with more hearing and finally turns out to be one of the highlights of the film. Dialogues are very effective and gel easily with the story. Sooraj Barjatya conveys a lot in his film and portrays the perfect picture of an Indian family and its values and traditions. One would love to be part of such a beautiful family. One thing is for sure that the film makes you smile as well as cry. At the end of the film all parents would wish that their children are like Vivek, Prem, Vinod and Sangeeta. Sooraj Barjatya has once again emerged a winner for the third consecutive time -- a director par excellence who makes film from his heart.

A perfect Diwali Gift for the audience by Sooraj Barjatya.
