Hote Hote Pyar Ho Gaya

REVIEW

It seems film makers have run out of fresh ideas and are desperate to cash in on the trend of Indian values and traditions in every way possible. Just think of all those movies that we have seen till date that boast of the same and frankly, they are nothing but mere bores. 'Hote Hote Pyar Ho Gaya' (HHPHG) is another one of those passing fads.

Kajol amp; Jackie The story of HHPHG, if there is any is that of two lovers who have to marry someone else against their wishes. They try every trick of Adam and Eve to spoil the marriage, but as 'marriages are made in heaven' they soon find themselves submitting to their respective spouses. How traditional, you would definitely say.

Pinky (Kajol), the spoilt daughter of retired colonel (Kulbhusan Karbanda) falls in love with Buntie (Atul Agnihotri) after they meet each other in a picnic. But as luck would have it, they are not allowed to marry each other and because they do not want to be tossed out of the house, agree to marry someone of their parents' choices. So married they get to Arjun (Jackie Shroff) and Shobha (Ayesha Jhulka) respectively.

But their minds work frantically to spoil the marriage in every way possible. Buntie's aunt (Aruna Irani) promises to help them but after a while stops doing the same. The lovebirds are shattered but can't really do anything about it. As has been happening in our culture and tradition, slowly both Pinky and Buntie are overwhelmed by the goodness of their respective spouses and start loving them. But by the time that happens, the audiences are too bored and suppressed quite a many yawns. They longing look forward to the hot dinner that is waiting for them at home.

The Trio There is nothing much to say about this movie. Kajol as usual has come out good and that's the only plus point of the movie. Jackie Shroff has played his age and in fact looks good. The spectacled Ayesha Jhulka drenches herself in rain and her red chiffon saree clings to her menacingly, and not sexily, as she wanted it to be. And what to say about Atul Agnihotri? He is no more the female heartthrob he used to be during his 'Sir' days.

There are not many good songs in the movie, which could have otherwise helped in the success of the film. There are times when the entire film looks very unprofessional and unambitious. Let's hope there are not too many movies of the same category!

Songs of HHPHG
1. Haiyo Hikko Nikko Ni (Anand Raj Anand & Kavita Krishnamurthy)
2. O Jaane Ja (Udit Narayan & Sadhana Sargam)
3. Jab Tum Mere (Kumar Sanu)
4. Pyar Wale Rang (Chitra)
5. Laddu Motichur Ka (Alka Yagnik & Poornima)
