GHAATH Cast: Manoj Vajpayee, Tabbu, Sheeba, Johny Lever, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Tinu Anand, Sp.App. Arshad Warsi and Raveena Tandon Rating: * |
Revenge, corruption, law breakers, underworld dons -- the most commonly used elements in Hindi cinema -- are all present in Ghaath. Krishna Patil (Manoj Bajpay) wants to become a police officer but is removed during training when he gets into a fight with another police officer Godbole (Mukesh Tiwari). Some incidents make him an enemy of criminial Mamu (Irfan Khan). Krishna's sister (Sheeba), married to Diwakar (Arshad Warsi), is killed in a building crash. The builder cannot be taken to task by the police as he is backed by Mamu. Diwakar is also murdered. Krishna decides to take revenge against Mamu. He is helped by lawyer Kavita (Tabu) and an honest police officer Ajay Pandey (Om Puri). There is no newness in the film. Everythings looks so repetitive. Lots of violence is there and the film has many shades of Shool. Manoj Bajpay looks awkward in the romantic scenes, however is very good in the rest of the part. But he has become too repetitive in this type of role. He desperately needs a change of image. Tabu in a small role does full justice. Om Puri is good. Music is poor and so is the direction. An avoidable film.
