DHADKAN Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Shilpa Shetty & Mahima Chowdhary Director: Dharmesh Darshan Music: Nadeem-Shravan Rating: * * |
After the success of Raja Hindustani, Dharmesh Darshan came with a big flop Mela and now it is just an average fare Dhadkan. It is actually a triangular love story, but a fourth angle is also introduced to give a happy ending. It is been inspired from many old films like Jeet, Rukhsat. A millionaire's daughter Anjali (Shilpa Shetty) loves Dev (Sunil Shetty). Being very poor and also an illegitimate child (mother's role is played by Sharmila Tagore), Dev is also very rude to Anjali's father (Kiran Kumar) when he goes to ask for Anjali's hand. Anjali's father rejects Dev and as an obedient daughter Anjali agrees to marry her father's choice Ram (Akshay Kumar). Dev is heart-broken but does not give up Anjali and decides to get her back. On the other hand Anjali behaves like a wife but does not love her husband. Ram with his simplicity and abundant love wins Anjali's heart and now they are a happily married couple. Now the twist. After 3 years, Dev lands from London with his business partner Sheetal (Mahima Chaudhary) and Rs 500 crores. Sheetal loves Dev knowing that he still loves Anjali. Dev goes back to Anjali who refuses to go with him. In anger, Dev ruins Ram financially. But everything ends well. The main drawback of the film is that the many twists are just not explained and are left to the audience to imagine. Screenplay is not impressive. Performance-wise Shilpa Shetty has an author-backed role. She looks beautiful in the simple get-up. She performs well but needs to work more on the emotional front. Akshay Kumar has definitely improved. He gives a sincere performance. However it is Sunil Shetty who steals the show. He emotes well. Mahima Chaudhary has nothing much to do. The highlights of the film are the beautiful locales and the music by Nadeem Shravan.
