DEEWANE Cast: Ajay Devgan, Urmila Matondkar & Mahima Chowdhary Director: Harry Baweja Music: Sanjeev-Darshan Rating: * * |
Harry Baweja's Deewane is a different love story with songs, dances, action and drama. It has all the ingredients of a successful film, and yet the final product is not that great. Sapna (Urmila Matondkar) is engaged to her childhood friend Vishal (Ajay Devgan). For Sapna, love is everything and she deeply loves Vishal but Vishal is a hard-hitting cop for whom duty precedes life. Vishal is shot by underworld don (Paresh Rawal) and goes in into a coma. Police commissioner (Shivaji Satnam) gets a look-alike Arun (Ajay Devgan) in his place. Arun is introduced as Vishal to Vishal's family and Sapna. Arun, who is now Vishal, falls in love with Sapna. Sapna now finds a more-loving Vishal which she always wanted. The problem arises when the real Vishal recovers. Sapna is in a dilemma between Arun, who loves her as much as she loves Vishal, and Vishal. There is another angle where a singer Pooja (Mahima Chaudhary) also loves Arun. Towards the end, the evils are finished off and true love triumphs. The film is too lengthy. Tighter editing might have helped the film a bit. Ajay Devgan in a double role impresses. Urmila Matondkar dresses well but does not perform that well. Mahima is wasted. Sanjeev Darshan's music is melodious. The film has some amazing locales.
