DAHEK Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Sonali Bendre, Anang Desai and Danny Director: Lateef Binny Music: Anand Milind, Aadesh Shrivastava Rating: * * |
The film was long in the making. It is a love story with religion coming in between. A Hindu boy falls in love with a Muslim girl and then the society does not accept their love. Sameer Roshan (Akshaye Khanna) and Neelima Bakshi (Sonali Bendre) fall in love with each. Their names don't reveal to each other that they belong to different religions. By the time they come to know, it is too late. Neelima's uncle Jabbar (Danny Denzongpa) who had gone to jail after murdering his brother-in-law who married his sister against his wishes, is out of prison. He is very strict in following Islam. However Neelima's grandmother (Achala Sachdeva) and younger uncle Naseem (KK Raina) are not that strict. Neelima's marriage is fixed to a Muslim boy but Sameer elopes Neelima. This becomes a big issue. Both the communities exploit this incident. The family affair becomes a political and communal issue. Akshaye Khanna plays his role very well. Sonali Bendre for the first time has something serious to do. She plays her role with sincerity. Danny Denzongpa and KK Raina have powerful roles. The direction and the screenplay are very poor. Yes, the film does have one very beautifully picturised song Sawaan Barse Tarse Dil....
