BANDHAN Cast: Salman Khan, Rambha, Ashwini Bhave, Ashok Saraf, Mukesh Rishi, Shakti Kapoor, Sweta Menon & Jackie Shroff Direction: K. Murli Manohar Rating: * * |
K. Murli Manohar has been known for making films which appeal to the rural masses. Bandhan also has been added in that list which includes his previous hits like Prem Qaidi and Anari. The concept of the film is that of the 60s-70s and the modern world just cannot comprehend with the unconvincing viewpoints of the film. Pooja (Ashwini Bhave) belongs to a poor family and gets married to Thakhur Suraj Pratap Singh (Jackie Shroff). In dowry, she gets her younger brother Raju (Salman Khan) along. Raju can do anything for her sister's happiness and literally becomes a slave to Thakur and his family. Thakur also has an younger sister Jyoti (Rambha). Raju and Jyothi falls in love with each other when they grow up. Till this point of time the film goes smoothly. Now for a twist in the film a nautanki dancer Vaishali (Sweta Menon) enters Suraj Pratap Singh's life. Thakur starts ignoring his wife Pooja for Vaishali and Raju feels this is an injustice done to his sister. Thakur even gets married to Vaishali and gets all his property and money transferred in Vaishali's name. And now one more turn in the film -- Thakur listens to Vaishali and Vaishali dances to the tune of her evil brother (Mukesh Rishi). The brother even kills Vaishali and Suraj Pratap is implicated in the murder. As usual for his sister's happiness, Raju takes the blame on himself and finally everything all ends well. The film has too much of melodrama. The basic theme of the film that the woman accepts all the flaws of the husband and above all he is God to her is not acceptable in these days. In a poorly written script the stars didn't have much to display their talents. Jackie Shroff is in a different role. More than his acting, it is his looks in ethnic designer dhoti kurta which attracts the audience. Salman Khan is giving more and more mature performance with every new release. He has tremendous screen presence and has done good job in a very sketchy written role. Ashwini Bhave is okay in the sister's role. Rambha is only for the songs and dances. The music is not very great and the direction is poor. |
