BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda, Raveena Tandon, Ramaiya, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Paresh Rawal & Madhuri Dixit (Sp.App)
Direction: David Dhawan
Rating: * *

It is another of David Dhawan's films where you have to leave your brains home and then go and see it. The much-hyped film does have some light moments but director David Dhawan has failed to capture the best of two of the finest comic actors - Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda. The film is inspired by a Hollywood hit The Comedy of Errors. The poor script fails to lift the film above average.

Arjun Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) and Pyare Mohan (Govinda) are two cops but they both cannot get along with each other. Police commissioner (Anupam Kher) assigns them the task of arresting the killers (Paresh Rawal and Sharad Saxena) and protecting the witness to the murder Neha (Ramya). Pyare is in love with Arjun's sister (Raveena Tandon). Arjun takes the task of protecting Neha and finally they both fall in love with each other. And then enter their look-alikes Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan , who are petty thieves. Bade and Chote complicate the cops' lives and are also suspended by the police commissioner. The climax is very poor.

The major default of the film is poor script by Rumy Jaffry and David Dhawan didn't work very hard to make it very crisper. Amitabh is good in the first half but then it is Govinda who steals the show. He is too good in the comedy scenes. But one can say Amitabh still has not lost his charisma in his dancing. The heroines have nothing to do. In special appearance Madhuri is a treat to the eyes. She looks gorgeous and has given a good dance sequence. Overall the film is not too great inspite of having two great actors in it.
