Hell's bells. One Akshay Kumar is footloose and fancy-free, hoping to hang onto the skirts of a rich miss. Hiss. The other Akshay Kumar is a maddy-baddy who behaves quite like the psychotic Nicholas Cage in Face/Off. You get the picture? Aflatoon is a ragtag action griller with a foggy-soggy story that serves as a mere pretext for the dances and combats. Suffice it to say that since everyone behaves as if their goose is cooked, you feel like either sinking into a snooze or running out to drown your sorrows in booze. The background score is brazenly lifted from the recent Tom Cruise thriller, Mission: Impossible. Urmila Matondkar, normally a bright and gifted actress, is wasted in a flim-flam-glam part. As the bad cad, Akshay Kumar comes to life. Given something even slightly different to do, he does rise to the occasion. Anupam Kher, as the heroine's daddy-o, looks hot and harassed, as if he were suffering from influenza. Don't even ask about Guddu Dhanoa. He seems to have only one aim in mind - to give you an Awfulatoon. |
