Subject: Report of my activities while attending the morale conference
in Rio Grande, Oh.
To whom it may concern: As you are well aware, I was recently in Rio
Grande, Ohio, at the Semi-Annual Morale Officers conference. The
agenda was a busy one, and included a talk by the Gallia County
Extension Agent, concerning some morale problems recently encountered
among the local Farmers. The problems were the result of a large part
of their cash crop having been burned by the Sherriff's Dept. Some of
the Sherriff's deputys were present to relate their views of the
situation.
You can imagine my utter amazement when I saw that one of the
deputies was Jarod!! Jarod knows me well from our many encounters, and
I saw recognition spread across his face as our eyes met. He came over
to me with that smile of his, and said," Hi, Chief, I didn't expect to
see you here". Not wanting to disrupt the meeting, I remained calm and
asked him what he was doing in the area.
He then described his mission to me, said he was close to a
conclusion, and then astounded me by asking for my assistance. Of
course I agreed. Because of his mission, and so that I could keep
track of him until our work was done.
The details of our efforts are not germane to this report.
Suffice it to say that unscrupulous Deputies were using their
positions for their own profit, at the expense of the weak and
oppressed of the County.
In two days time, several deputies were on suspension awaiting
their fates, thanks to our efforts. These efforts were recognized by a
grateful community, by the presentation of "Community service awards"
to Jarod and myself. As I turned to shake his hand, instead of Jarod,
I found an elderly clergyman, who looked at me vaguely, and handed me
a note,"from the other gentleman", which said," Sorry, Chief, I have
much work to do, please give my award to miss Parker. She deserves it
much more than I do"!!
Although my mission was not entirely successful by Centre
standards, I am happy to announce that I won the conference Dart-
Throwing contest in behalf of the centre. A noteable achievement, I
know!! The trophy can be found in the trophy case near Miss Parker's
office. I will present Jarod's acievement award to Miss Parker at the
first opportunity.
