Tommy Oliver became the green ranger when Rita Repulsa kidnapped him and put him under a spell. From then on he was known as the evil green ranger and served Rita loyally, with only one mission in mind.... destroy the power rangers.
After he made himself worthy Rita presented him with the Sword of Darkness. Unless it was destroyed Tommy would remain under her spell for all eternity.
Just when things seem to be going according to plan Jason, the red ranger, and the green ranger fought. Even though it was by far there first time fighting each other, Jason had a different ending in mind. The grueling battle finally ended when Jason was able to get the Sword of Darkness away from Tommy and then shoot it. Destroying it, along with the spell that was controlling Tommy's mind.
When the spell was broken Tommy joined the other rangers in the fight against evil. The prophecy had been full filled, the sixth ranger was in its place.
