After transferring to Angel Grove from Stone Canyon along with two of his friends, Aisha and Adam, they become friends with the teens, not knowing who they really were.
Then one day while being rescued by the Power Rangers, the blue ranger has some trouble with a snake and ends up having to take his helmet off to breath. While the rangers warn Rocky, Adam and Aisha to stay back. The three can't help but wonder who's under that mask. They find out there friends true identities and keep it a secret.
When Jason is picked to attend a peace conference in Switzerland, Rocky is chosen to take his place as the red ranger. Thats the day when Rocky DeSantos' life changed forever. For he has become the red ranger. Controller of the tyrannosaurus powers and keeper of the power sword.
When a cosmic creature named Ivan Ooze is accidently uncovered by construction workers, Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa take full advantage of this opportunity and release him from his hyper lock chamber.
Immediately Ivan goes after Zordon who had imprisoned him six thousand years earlier. While attacking the Command Center he destroys practically everything in site. Causing it to shut down and the powers to be lost... forever.
Yet all was not lost. Alpha 5, Zordons trusted assistant, was able to teleport the rangers to the distant plant Phaedos to retreive the sacred ninjetti powers.
Shortly after there arrival the teens meet Dulcea, master warrior of the planet Phaedos. When she learns of what's happening on earth she leads the rangers to the ruins of the sacred ninjetti temple. There she bestows upon them the power of ninjetti.
Rocky's power now came from his animal ninjetti spirit. The ape. For he is just like his animal, powerful and smart.
