The Kiss
by Keeah
Gabrielle sat thinking to herself.
"Does she know what she does to me? How walking beside her day in and day out
hurts so much? Does she realize how much I love her? I can't stand things to remain
this way. I have to tell her. I have to tell her I love her so. She is my heart
and soul, my every reason for living."
"Hey, you ready?" Gabrielle's thoughts were interrupted by the Warrior Princess'
angelic voice.
"Hmm, what?.. Oh, Yeah, lets go," Gabrielle answered reluctantly. She had no desire
to leave this magnificent grove, but was at her warrior's beck and call.
They walked along the road towards a small town they had helped to liberate many
months ago. Gabrielle walked beside Xena, who was leading Argo. The path they
walked was littered with newly fallen leaves. Gabrielle had noted each colour
of the displaced leaves and made a mental note to herself that she might use this
as a reference in one of her next stories. Xena walked along in her proud warrior
walk, back straight, and eyes ever watching the woods on either side of the path
for a possible ambush.
"Argo needs new shoes," announced Xena, "We'll go straight to the blacksmith when
we get into town."
"Yes, good idea.", agreed Gabrielle.
As they approached the blacksmith's barn in the center of the town, they noticed
the town was bustling with much activity.
"Hello," Xena called out the blacksmith, who was busily shaping a piece of metal
into a horseshoe. "My horse needs new shoes, we're in a hurry, how long will it
take to re-shoe her?"
Xena knew they were not in a hurry, but staying in one place too long usually
gave her an uneasy feeling.
"Are you kidding, lady, you see that coral?" He pointed to a coral that had at
least sixteen horses in it. "All those horses need shoes as well. They were here
first, it's going to be a couple of days," he answered.
"A couple of days!" remarked Xena.
Gabrielle placed her hand on Xena's shoulder. "We are not really in a hurry are
we Xena? We can just get a room at that inn for a few days while Argo gets her
new shoes.." she suggested.
"Ahhh, nope, you can't get a room at that inn, it's full with all the owners of
those horses," he said pointed to the coral once again. "But, I have a small cottage
just outside of town I can let you use if you like. I still owe you both my life
for what you did for this town. Its small, but there's a warm fire and a roof
to sleep under."
They left Argo with the blacksmith and headed for the little cottage the blacksmith
had offered them. Gabrielle was looking forward to spending the night on a soft
comfy bed instead of her now ever present bedroll.
Both were famished and were ready for a good home cooked meal. They had purchased
some food to make a good meal from at the local shop. They didn't really mind
taking their meals when they could get them while travelling, but on occasion
appreciated having a meal together that they did not have to hunt for and cook
themselves. Gabrielle had become a very good campfire chef and Xena never disappointed
when hunting up a good meal.
They arrived at the little cottage and began the preparation of the evenings meal.
Gabrielle had already been to the little brook that ran past the cottage for some
fresh water. Xena had decided that a quick bath was in order to freshen up, and
had removed her armor and leather boots. She was about ready to slip into the
cool water when she heard a shout from within the cottage.
Xena rushed into the cabin. Gabrielle was sitting on the floor of the cottage
with a bucket in front of her. She had a sad look on her face and was staring
at the floor that was now covered in water. Xena stopped dead in her tracks and
took one look at the pathetic look on Gabrielle's face and began to giggle. She
tried her best to stifle the giggle but she was unable to. Gabrielle looked up
at Xena.
"Don't laugh, it's not funny, now I am going to have to go get more water!", Xena
broke into a fit of laughter. Gabrielle looked around her and began to giggle
as well. "Here, take my hand, get off of this wet floor" ordered Xena.
Gabrielle placed her hand in Xena's and was pulled to her feet with one quick
yank. Xena pulled her up so hard that she pulled Gabrielle off of her feet. She
was not steady on her feet and had to place a hand on Xena's right breast to steady
herself. Xena looked at Gabrielle with a sly look.
"I'll go get some more water", announced Xena.
Xena turned and walked out of the cottage leaving Gabrielle standing there watching
her exit. She felt a weak feeling come over her.
"That's it!" she thought, I have to tell her, I have to let her know
how I feel about her.
Xena entered the cottage carrying the bucket which was now full of water. She
placed it on the floor in front of the counter where Gabrielle had placed the
produce they had purchased while in town. She turned to face Gabrielle who by
now was standing behind her. Gabrielle was standing so close to her that Xena
almost knocked her off of her feet.
Gabrielle backed up a step or two. "Xena," Gabrielle looked up at Xena.
"Yes", answered Xena in a soft voice.
"I have something I have been wanting to ask you ever since Valasca and Callisto
were dumped into that lava pit."
"Go ahead", remarked Xena
"Actually, I have wanted to ask you this since before they were tossed into the
pit."
Xena could sense Gabrielle stalling, "Ask already, what do you want to know?"
"Umm" Gabrielle hesitated, "when you took over Autolycus's body, umm" She paused
again and set her gaze on Xena's ice blue eyes.
Gabrielle moved closer to Xena. "You kissed me," she said in a soft voice. Her
gaze went to the floor.
Xena took hold of Gabrielle's chin and trained her eyes back towards hers. "And
you kissed me", she remarked in a soft voice. "Like this"
Xena pressed her lips to the bard's. Gabrielle felt a weak feeling take hold of
her. As she began to loose the steadiness of her feet she felt Xena's arms wrap
around her waist. Xena pulled her closer to her. In one deep, passionate kiss,
all of Gabrielle's fears of not knowing Xena's feelings for her, vanished. She
knew in that moment that theirs was a pure love.
Xena lifted the smaller woman into her arms, and gently placed her on a large
animal skin in front of the fireplace. Gabrielle watched her every move as Xena
lit the fireplace. Once the fire was blazing she turned her attention to the young
bard on the rug behind her.
Xena placed a loving hand on the side of Gabrielle face. "I should have kissed
you like that long ago," Xena said in a sultry voice. She leaned down towards
the awaiting bard and tenderly began to caress her back and neck.
Xena sat behind Gabrielle on the rug. "Your shoulders are like rocks, Gabrielle,
let me loosen them up for you." Xena took the ties of Gabrielle's top in her fingers
and pulled on them. She loosened the top so that she could get at the exposed
shoulders. Gently Xena began to massage Gabrielle's shoulders, Gabrielle closed
her eyes and was feeling rather weak by now. Xena had her in a spell and she was
sure she did not wish to be released. Gabrielle began to feel quite relaxed. She
felt her warrior's lips press on her neck. Tender kisses were trailing up and
down her neck. She felt shivers running through her body.
Xena lifted her head away from Gabrielle neck. "Hmm, how about that meal?" she
teased.
"Meal?" questioned Gabrielle, "You have got to be kidding. How can you be hungry
at a moment like this?"
Normally, Gabrielle would never pass up the chance for a good meal, but Xena had
taken her mind totally off of food.
"I am hungry, Gabrielle, just not for food", replied Xena.
Xena continued massaging Gabrielle's tired shoulders.
"I love you, Xena," whispered Gabrielle
"Yes, I know," replied Xena, "I can see it in your eyes, and taste it in your
sweet lips." Xena kissed Gabrielle tenderly once again, "I love you, too, Gabrielle."
