Billy and Charles come face to face during the Battle of Atletam Creek:
BILLY: Charles?
CHARLES: Get out of here, Billy, before I have to kill you.
BILLY: Before I have to kill you.

After trying once again to get Billy killed, Ashton leaves Mount Royal in a huff:
BRETT: I do hope you have a safe trip, Ashton. Maybe you could stop at that Confederate camp and charm the colonel into giving you an escort north.
ASHTON: And if I never see you again, little sister, it would be too soon.

The Hazards, unaware that Orry and Charles have come to George's aid in Libby Prison, prepair to spend Christmas without him:
MAUDE: I just keep thinking of Billy and George. It doesn't seem like Christmas without them.
CONSTANCE: No, it doesn't. Sometimes I wonder if I'll be able to survive another day without George. But, Mother, think about how difficult it must be for those families whose loved ones will never be coming home.
MAUDE: I can't believe Clarissa is in the midst of that fighting. Every night I pray for the Mains just as I pray for our family. How can we sing about peace on earth goodwill towards men after four years of war? Dear God, how much longer must this go on?
CONSTANCE: If General Grant takes Petersburg it might be over before we know it. I know. I know.
BUTLER: (Answers the door)
GEORGE: Merry Christmas, everyone.
CONSTANCE: Oh, George, it's really you.

George finds Orry in a field hospital:
GEORGE: The last time we spoke, I told you to take care of yourself. You obviously weren't listening to me.
ORRY: Nobody was listening those days.

Orry and George look at the ashes of Mont Royal:
ORRY: I'm glad my father didn't live to see this. I got married here, George, the happiest day of my life.
GEORGE: We can't fool ourselves by thinking it will be easy to rebuild this country, Orry. It won't be. We've all suffered too much. But, in a way, our families have been blessed and our friendship's endured. Maybe it's up to us in our own way to start healing the wounds of the nation. I want to reinvest in our textile mill, Orry, and I want you to use the profits to rebuild Mont Royal.
ORRY: You're the best friend a man could ever have, George.
GEORGE: We're a family, Orry, you remember that.
