Mancow brings ratings with him
to new roost

Mancow Muller's ratings juggernaut rolls on.
AccuRatings figures released this week show WKQX-FM (101.1) moving up from eighth place in mornings with a 3.8 percent audience share in spring to fourth place with a 6.5 share. Muller signed on as morning host at Q-101 at the end of July--one month into the summer ratings period.
Muller's former station, WRCX-FM (103.5), dropped from fifth with a 5.6 share to 17th with a 2.1. Muller was replaced by the syndicated morning duo of Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold.
Even more dramatic was the shift among listeners between the ages of 25 and 54. In that category, Q-101 jumped from 17th place with a 2.7 share to second with a 6.5 share. Rock 103.5 fell from third place with 5.2 share to 24th with a 1.5 share.
AccuRatings, based on telephone surveys by Chicago-based Strategic Media Research, are considered a precursor to the more authoritative Arbitron figures. Arbitron will release its summer survey results Oct. 13.
The apparent audience erosion at Rock 103.5 can only hasten a format change. For competitors like Chuck Hillier, vice president and general manager of Q-101, it's a foregone conclusion.
``They've already changed formats,'' Hillier said. ``I just tuned in and heard a fat lady singing.''

ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT HEARING CASE INVOLVING MANCOW AND
RADIO PERSONALITIES IN GENERAL...
The Illinois Supreme Court is considering a case brought by former Chicago Bear Keith Van
Horne who is suing Chicago morning personality Mancow Muller for defamation of character.
The issue before the state Supreme Court, for the first time, raises the issue of whether a radio
station and its owner can be held responsible for negligently hiring, supervising and retaining an
on-air radio disc-jockey. Besides suing Mancow, Van Horne is suing the station
for negligently hiring, supervising and retaining Mancow, who Van Horne alleges had a history
of irresponsible and outrageous behavior at other radio stations. Oral arguments were heard last
week and the court is now deciding the issue of whether the First Amendment prohibits -- in
any way -- radio stations from being sued for the negligent hiring, supervision and retention of
on-air talent. Meanwhile, various radio companies and organizations such as the NAB have
sided with Mancow in the argument.This is from NewradioStar

Dialing: Mancow's listeners on the move
* It'll be months before Arbitron delivers the definitive word, but early reports suggest a mass migration of morning listeners to
WKQX-FM (101.1) since Mancow Muller jumped from WRCX-FM (103.5). The week-by-week AccuTrack survey by
Chicago-based Strategic Media Research shows Q-101's morning audience share moving up from a 3.6 to an 8.1, while
Rock 103.5's dropped like a rock--from a 3.7 to a 1.5.
Irma Blanco will not join Mancow's Show at Q101.
Irma Blanco Mancow's long time news anchor will not be returning.She will take a job
at a station KCMG in Los Angeles California.One rumored replacement is former MTV veejay Kennedy.
Mancow is Going to Q101!
Mancow is going to Q101 in Chicago.With a tenative start date of July 27th
Mancow's Morning Madhouse will be on Q101 101.1 F.M. in Chicago.
There are several reasons for his depature.From what I have read the
main reason is that WRCX's parent company (Chancellor) wasn't helping with
syndication of the show and Mancow had lost faith in the company.Additionally
he will be making quite a bit more money than he did at WRCX and he feels more in touch with Q101's
format.This will not affect affliates.However to honor his noncompete contract with Chancellor he
will have a multiple week blackout in Chicago.It is expected
that most of Mancow's supporting cast will go with him but it is not definite that they all will.
It is however known that Freak will NOT join the show at Q101,However,Turd,Angie the Phone Girl,and Luv Cheese are definitly coming.
WRCX (Rock 1035) is bringing in mediocre Morning Zoo

Mancow's TV Show!
Mancow will have his TV show
on a new basic cable station called Radio TV Network (RTV).It will be a a one hour
show broadcast in primetime.The Station will be available via satellite,Cable and DBS(whatever that is).
