Neve Campbell (jokingly nicknamed "Foghorn" by the Party of Five cast) was born a Libra on October 3, 1973 in Guelph, Ontario (Canada). Her mother Marnie Campbell runs a yoga studio in Vancouver and her father Gerry Campbell is a drama teacher in Toronto. They divorced when Neve was just a baby. Neve has an older brother, Christian (who co-starred in the NBC TV serires "Malibu Shores" and the ABC movie "Perfect Family"), and two younger half-brothers, Alex and Damian, one of whom is a dancer.
It was no surprise that Neve would pursue a career in acting, since performing and entertaining tends to "run in the blood" of the Campbell family. Her father teaches media and drama at a high school, and her mother used to own a dinner theater. Both of her Scottish grandparents performed for the soldiers during World War II and her Dutch grandparents owned a theater in Holland. And her older brother, of course, is an aspiring actor.
Neve started out dancing at six years old. When she was nine, she began training at the National Ballet School of Canada and later performed in productions of "Phantom of the Opera," "The Nutcracker" and "Sleeping Beauty." She later turned to acting and landed her first commercial for a mall in Canada called Eaton Center. Soon after she was cast in several movies, including "I Know My Son is Alive," "Paint Cans," and "The Dark." She was also a series regular for one season in the 1994 syndicated series "Catwalk" and played a guest role in Nickolodean's "Are You Afraid of the Dark". After being cast in Party of Five, Neve has continued her movie career with such features as "The Craft" which was released in May 1996, the recent ABC/Hallmark TV movie "The Canterville Ghost.", and the upcoming horror flick "Scream" which co-stars Drew Barrymore and Courtney Cox and is scheduled to be released in October '96.
Neve (pronounced "nev") is named after her mother's Dutch maiden name which means "snow". She was married to Jeff Colt on April 3, 1995 in England during filming of "The Canterville Ghost" after being together for five years. They met when she was performing in "The Phantom of the Opera" and he was bartending in front of the opera house. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, singing and dancing (including ballet, jazz, modern contemporary, flamenco and hip-hop). Her favorite movie is "An American in Paris", favorite artist is Larena McKennett, and one of her favorite actors/actresses is Susan Sarandon. Originally from Canada, Neve currently resides in Los Angeles and drives a Volkswagen Cabriolet which she had bought when she was seventeen.
