Tribute to Stacey O.

Those of you who are post on alt.tv.x-files may know that
Stacey O., webmistress of the
Carter Connection,
passed away yesterday morning (December 17, 1998).
I found out today, and I was devastated to hear the news.

I never met Stacey face-to-face, but we had formed an online friendship. Particularly after I'd met Chris Carter, my respect for him grew tremendously. I became a regular visitor to Stacey's site, and eventually a contributor. Our friendship grew from being fellow admirers of Chris and the fact that I had had two of my usual strange dreams which had featured her. Earlier this month, we were making tentative plans to meet each other at an X-Philes gathering in Los Angeles next year.

As a relatively new Phile, it meant a lot to come across someone who was as generous in spirit as Stacey, who made me feel welcome in the X-Phile community. We traded Chris Carter "goodies" - pictures and articles - through the mail, and I entertained her with my latest bizarre dreams about The Creator and other fun stories about LA - I was beginning to think I was having some of those dreams just to amuse Stacey :->. Stacey, in turn, made me laugh and spoke fondly of her two children, Bill and Paige. At 31, she leaves them behind much too soon.

I've never been an avid contributor to alt.tv.x-files, but anyone there will tell you that Stacey touched everyone with the gift of her humor and her never wavering, always-legendary, defense of Chris Carter. She never met him, but she once described her admiration for him as being "like Elvis" to her.

I won't try to be eloquent. Suffice it to say that I spent the first hour after I read the news crying and shaking, and I'm still in disbelief. It's odd to think that you can become friends with someone you never meet in "real time," but I'm learning first-hand that it happens, and I will miss Stacey terribly. Since the announcement on Friday, the newsgroup has filled with tributes to her from fellow Philes.

I would like to think that in some way, Chris will feel the loss of her presence and admiration as well. I know that an effort is being made to dedicate in episode in her memory, and 1013, if you're reading this, I hope you're listening.

Stacey O. honored as "Alpha" character

April 6, 1999:

This news is from Peg Yacobucci and was poasted at the Chris Carter website, Beyond the Surf:

Stacey O.'s name will be used in an upcoming episode - we don't know which yet or the exact context in which it will be used. But Stacey's family knows and is very pleased.

(I originally posted this to alt.tv.x-files)

Forgive me if this was cleared up long time ago. But last I'd heard, there was still confusion over whether or not the Stacey (not even sure if that was the spelling of her name) in "Alpha" was named in tribute to Stacey O. So yesterday, during the signing at the Comic-Con, I decided to ask Chris Carter about her. We weren't really supposed to try to have a conversation with him, because they were trying to herd as many people through the line as possible, so I made it quick.

After thanking him for signing the card, I said, "I just have a very quick question. You know Stacey O. She did the Carter Connection?" CC's face became very grave - he knew exactly who I was talking about. "Yes, I know who she was," he said. "Stacey in Alpha - was she named after Stacey O.?" CC nodded, "Yes, she was." I told him that a great number of people would be relieved and happy to have that cleared up, and I thanked him for the tribute and for letting me know.

So, again, if you already knew this for sure, ignore this post. But I was happy to hear it from the man himself.
