Cold Comfort Farm

Any dolt could recommend Gone With The Wind or Schindler's List. I'm more interested in recommending a film that may be a little less seen, but that any retard should see. So says Piccalo. This week's choice is Cold Comfort Farm, another british import from the BBC and starring that cutie patootie Kate Beckinsale. Kate went on to star in The Last Days of Disco, which I haven't seen, but I have a wacko friend who adores it. Anyway, Cold Comfort Farm is an off-kilter story about an orphaned girl/woman who goes to stay with backwards relatives in the country. So, most of you redneck buttsuckers should be able to relate just fine. Kate sets about to help all these freaky deaky relatives and in so doing, helps herself. Bleh - it sounds trite, I know, but the film is filled with adorable kooky characters, including one who "saw something nasty in the woodshed"... woohoo! Also, Rufus Sewell (of Dark City fame, see Dark City, see Dark City) gets a chance to play sex-boy as cousin Seth and Ian McKellen is amusing as strict, bible-thumping cousin Amos. Cold Comfort Farm was directed by John Schlesinger (no relation to that cunt, Dr. Laura, to my knowledge) who directed Midnight Cowboy, which I guess is just my way of saying he's okay. You can find Cold Comfort Farm at most video stores, but stay away from Blockbuster the evil devil company. Oh, for you Absolutely Fabulous fans, CCF also offers a supporting role from Joanna Lumley. So go see it. Now.
