Actually that should be OTHER RIPOFFS. 'Legends of the Super-Heroes' was itself very much a ripoff of the old Batman series, with a little saturday morning TV on the side. And such an abject failure didn't exactly spawn a rash of imitators looking to cash in. The only originality it was able to add was some late 70's glossyness, tired showbiz comedy and a techo music soundtrack.
So here I'm going to discuss a few other shows that like 'LOSH', took good useful source material, and threw out nearly everything fun and exciting. I'll be mainly focusing on stuff made around the same time as "LOSH". Images will be forthcoming.
THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL (1978)
This special brought the entire cast of Star Wars to TV in a comedy/musical special, straight off the success of Star Wars. Filmed on video-tape it's as hard to watch as it is to understand, and guest-stars Bea Authur, Art Carney, and Harvey Korman dressed as a woman. The Wookie gets more screen time than Harrison Ford.
KiSS MEETS THE PHANTOM OF THE PARK (1979)
ADDAMS FAMILY HALLOWEEN SPECIAL (1979)
THE WILD WILD WEST REVISITED (1979)
THE NUDE BOMB (THE RETURN OF MAXWELL SMART) (1980)
