Almost Heroes Review

In this historical farce directed by talented comic Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman) the late Chris Farley and Friends star Matthew Perry play Edwards and Hunt, fictional rivals of Oregon Trail explorers Lewis and Clark. While attempting to beat their rivals to the Pacific Ocean, Farley and Perry meet with predictable mishaps in the wilderness.

Those who are fans of Farley’s bumbling-fat guy act will find the physical comedy appealing, but Friends fans should avoid this flimsy sidekick performance by Perry. The humor will appeal mostly to fans of Farley’s other films and his Saturday Night Live gags. But even as a vehicle for Farley Almost Heroes will be a disappointment to fans hoping for a final tour de farce from the late comedian. (Rated PG-13.)
