Several lengths of old US Highway 280 remain in
service through Shelby and Talladega Counties. In
Shelby, the old route snakes back and forth across
the current four-lane and is numbered, obviously
enough, Shelby Co. 280 using the typical pentagon
blue and gold signage. In Talladega quite a contiguous
stretch of the former federal highway exists, signed
as Talladega Co. Rd 511 thru Oak Grove and
Sylacauga.

511 leaves the four-lane headed southeast out of
Childersburg around mile marker 39 (or thirty-nine
miles southeast of US 280's start in Birmingham
near
Homewood and US 31).
