John and Elizabeth Bray Marsden

John marsden was born on August 21,1822 in Brighouse,
Halifax Parish, West Yorkshire, England.
He was christened at Rastrick Chapel on 13 Apr 1823.
His parents were Joseph and Mary Wood Marsden.
John Marsden was a blacksmith by trade.

His wife, Elizabeth Bray, was born in Skircoat, Halifax Parish,
West Yorkshire,England, and christened on December 5, 1824.
Her parents were James and Harriot Sladdin Bray.

       

Hebden Bridge

Elizabeth and John were married at Hebden Bridge,
Yorkshire on February 16,1845.

Elizabeth and John were the parents of six children:

Mary, John B., James B., Ann Eliza, Joseph B., and Elizabeth.

Elizabeth and her four living children emigrated to America
aboard the ship Manchester which arrived in the New York harbor
on 6 May 1862. They traveled from New York to Florence, Nebraska by train.
In Florence they joined the Joseph Horne wagon train and traveled
to Tooele, Utah Territory where they arrived in October 1862.

John emigrated to America in 1863.
He sailed aboard the "Cynosure" from Liverpool.
He traveled by wagontrain to Utah.
He died in July 1864 at Emigration Canyon
and was buried in a grave which was covered over with rocks.
The family went back later to find his grave, but it
was never found.

Elizabeth and her children settled in Tooele. Mary and Ann Eliza both married
and eventually moved from Tooele. John married and spent his life
in Tooele where he raised a family and helped settle Tooele.
Many of John's descendants still live in Tooele.
