What is Sin?: Not living the
way God wants us to
and also doing the things He doesn't want us to do.
There are a lot of things in
our lives that are sins. We can only learn what they all are by going to
church and reading our Bibles. This is why Jesus tells us that as soon
as we are saved, we must get into our Bibles. That way, we can start living
the way He wants us to. We could never do it on our own. If we could,
we wouldn't need the Lord.
These are the Ten Commandments
that the Lord gave to Moses. They are to help us know how to live like
God wants us to. It's not everything but if we live by these laws, we will
be much more like the people God wants us to be.
After reading this book from the Bible, go on and read
the next three books. They tell of many things that the Lord spoke to Moses
about.
Exodus
20
1: And God spake all
these words, saying,
2: I am the LORD thy
God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house
of bondage.
3: Thou shalt have
no other gods before me. (see Idolatry)
Worshiping
Mother Earth, or anything like that is a sin and God does not like it!
He made us and does not want any false gods getting the thanks. You would
not go to another man and thank him for raising you instead of going to
your own dad would you? That would make him sad. Well, that is what you
are doing if you worship anything or anyone other than our Heavenly Father.
4: Thou shalt not make
unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven
above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the
earth:
How
can we take something that our God has made, (a tree or stone), and turn
it into a god to worship? Also, angels. I see a lot of people that worship
and pray to angels. Angels are only messengers of God. They are not to
be prayed to. We are only to pray to God through His Son Jesus Christ.
5: Thou shalt not bow
down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third
and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Like
I said, God made us and why should we bow down to anyone else?
6: And shewing mercy
unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7: Thou shalt not take
the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
that taketh his name in vain.
Why
do we do this? Do we say our earthly father's name this way? How about
our mother? Why should we curse with our Fathers name like this? We should
only show honor and respect to the One who made us.
8: Remember the sabbath
day, to keep it holy.
"Church
is too boring!" Christians should be with other Christians. Yes. you should
talk to others and share the Lord's word with them, but the Bible tells
us to fellowship with other Christians. Where else to meet Christians than
in church? How can you grow in your Christianity without going to
church? Simply saying that you are a Christian isn't enough. You need to
go to church. It's God's law! Find a church that is not boring to you.
When you are saved, you will look at church differently and may not think
it's boring anymore!
9: Six days shalt thou
labour, and do all thy work:
10: But the seventh
day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Is
it so bad that God gave us a day we can just sit back and relax? When we
go to church, we see our friends and after church we can sit around and
fellowship with them. That's such a great thing to do. But in this world,
we only have so much time and so we are always in such a rush to get things
done. God took off a day and rested, why shouldn't we? Make a big dinner
on Saturday and have left overs. Wash the dishes Monday.
11: For in six days
the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested
the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed
it.
12: Honour thy father
and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD
thy God giveth thee.
We
are born, grow up, and leave the home to be on our own. What about our
parents? When they get old, we stick them in an old folks home so others
can take care of them. What's wrong with taking care of them ourselves?
Who decided that we don't have to support our parents? They supported us
for close to twenty years or more. Some think that honoring our parents
means just to say yes sir and yes mam'. Well, it's much more than that.
It's being there for them all the days of their lives. Making sure that
they are happy in their old age. That's what they wanted for you!
13: Thou shalt not
kill.
Murder!
That is what this is talking about. God gave us all a great gift. Life.
It is a great sin to take that gift away from anyone no matter what the
reason. If someone takes a life, or many lives, they should be punished.
Capital punishment is not murder, it is punishment. The ones who put someone
to death are simply punishing them in the only way man has seen fit to
deal with others that take anothers' life.
14: Thou shalt not
commit adultery.
Adultery
is not just sex with another while married. It can be a thought, a deed,
a way of life. You can commit adultery against your spouse and also against
God. Living against the laws that God gives us to live by, is an adulterous
sin.
15: Thou shalt not
steal.
Anything!
To steal is to take without asking, even if no one ever finds out. If it
doesn't belong to you, and you take it, don't just think that they "just
won't mind." Too many people make that mistake and feel that they have
done nothing. Ask.
16: Thou shalt not
bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Lying!
No one likes a liar. How can you ever trust someone who lies to you?
17: Thou shalt not
covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,
nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any
thing that is thy neighbour's.
We
are a jealous people. We see what others have and we want it. We want so
much in life but we need to sit back and look at what we NEED. God gives
us what we need if we only ask. Once in awhile He will give us a want but
mostly just what we need. If people would not be so greedy, this would
be a much better place to live. We wouldn't need to lock up our things
or our homes. We could go for walks in the park, day or night, and feel
safe. But there's always someone who wants what we have, no matter how
little that may be.
If you put these words to work
in your life, then you will notice a great difference. If you continue
to read the rest of the Bible, you will see many more laws that the Lord
has given us. They are there to help us, because the Lord loves us and
wants us to be more like Him. If you can't understand your Bible, go to
a church and ask the Pastor if he could give you one that you can understand.
Also, join a church! You will find many new friends and learn so much more
than you can on your own.
