here to see photos) The Storck family has extensive ties to slinger dating back to 1877 when H. Charles Storck and William Hartig purchased the Schleisingerville Brewery from the Lehman Rosenheimer family. Storck bought out Hartig a few years later. H. Charles Storck received his training in Milwaukee working at the Blatz Brewery. He and his first wife, Henrietta, had eleven children. She died in 1893 and in 1896 H. Charles married Julia Schumacher (daughter of Ferdinand, the shoe maker) and had two more children, a son who died at age 2-1/2 and a daughter Margaret who married Walter Enderle. H. Charles and family lived in a house behind the brewery. Chas. Storck, Dead Mr. Storck was 54 years of age, having been born at Darmstadt, Grosserzogthum, Hessen, Bavaria, Nov. 24, 1848. In his early life in his native country he began to learn the locksmith's trade, but after completing his apprenticeship he came to America, and dropped that work entirely. He landed in this country in 1865, and went to Rochester, N.Y., where he remained three years. Coming to Chicago he stopped but for a short time and then moved to Milwaukee, where he worked as an enginer in the Kargledon brewery. In Sept. 1877 he came to Schleisingerville, where he purchased the brewery in company with Wm. Hartig. Later Mr. Hartig sold out to Chas. Ehlert, now of this city. In 1899 Mr. Storck bought out Mr. Ehlert, and since then conducted the brewery alone until death. During the years that he was its proprietor, many changes and improvements were made to the brewery and in the equipment, until now it is one of the best in the state. Mr. Storck was a kind man and indulgent in his family, and one who possessed the friendship of his fellowmen to an unusual degree. Mr. Storck was married Feb. 22, 1873, to Henrietta Schroeder, whose home was near Kohlsville. Mrs. Storck died July 9, 1893, leaving him with nine children, two having preceded him in death. The nine who are living are, Henry, Chas. D., of Schleisingerville, Wm. of Norristown, PA, August, Lizzie, George, Alfred, Emma and Oscar, all living at home. Mr. Storck was again married, in 1895, to Julia Schumacher, of Schleisingerville, and one child, Margaret, was born to them. Mr. Storck is also survived by five grandchildren, children of his two older sons, Henry and Charles, both of whom with their families live in Schleisingerville, and helped their father in the brewery. Mr. Storck during his life time had been a member of the Sons of Herman, and of the I.O.O.F. At the time of his death he was serving as treasurer of his village. The funeral will take place at two o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Blankennagle officiating. The interment is to be at the Union Cemetery. |
