Support Message Boards
Problems with the Family Tree Maker Support Message Boards, now handled
by GenForum.

-
The less than "<" and greater than ">" characters
are not permitted in posted messages. The posting mechanism deletes them
– and everything between them – when it should simply change them
to the strings, "<" and "> which would display the proper
characters.

The recent move to
GenForum has not changed this. A problem has been written to GenForum.
The solution requires a simple change in their script. |

The Online Message Board Search
mechanism nightly maintenance often gets "stuck" so that it locks out the
users well into the daytime: If all the message boards have been
moved over to GenForum, why is the nightly maintenance still
needed?

 Posting
a follow-up to a message uses a dialog with the title from the referenced
message filled into the Title space. This title will be truncated at the
first double quote, however.
-
The dialog for posting a message
has spaces for the user's name and email address. Data entered there is
retained (via a cookie?) and automatically filled in on subsequent postings.
There doesn't seem to be any way to change the saved content, however.
If your email address changes, you must thereafter overtype the old address
with your new one on every posting.
