Users may supply their own (Manual) reference numbers, or they may
direct the program to generate (Automatic) reference numbers, optionally
with a prefix or suffix. To be useful as Reference Numbers, these
numbers should be constant and unique.
Duplicates: Automatic Reference Numbering may produce
numbers duplicating manually entered numbers.
Duplicates: There is no warning given if a manually
entered reference number would duplicate another manual or automatic number.
Merge: When two individuals are merged, the user
has no control over the choice of which Automatic Reference Number will
survive. Ony if one or both have Manual Reference numbers is the user involved
in the choice.
