Printing
This covers all sorts of difficulties encountered while printing anything from FTM.

Printer Setup

  1. Default/Specific printer: The "Specific printer" radio button in the Print Setup dialog will be reset to "Default printer" if the selected printer happens to be the Windows Default printer. This places control over the choice of printers outside FTM.
  2. FTM must be reminded each time to Print in Color. That check-box should remain as set until explicitly changed by the user.
How to recreate

  1. The paper sizes in the list are not alphabetically arranged, which subverts the feature of being able to position the list by typing a letter. The paper sizes listed directly by the printer are in alphabetical order. This effect is not seen with other applications.
  2. The "Print in color" check box does not apply to images. One wonders what purpose this checkbox serves, other than to annoy the users?
  3. Tree boxes shaded in gray will not be printed as displayed unless "Print color" is checked in Print Setup.

  1. The Printer Setup dialog is evoked by the key sequence ALT+F+R in all reports — with one inexplicable exception: In a Book Text Item it is ALT+F+T. So much for consistency.

Other Problems

  1. There is no provision for duplex printing (i.e. on both sides of the page). Version 5 addition of "Mirror Margins" is but one step toward duplex support.
