Fixing Relationship Mistakes
contains
erroneous information in the section:
Notes on Attaching:
"If a child already has parents on one Family
Page, you won't be able to add the child to a different Family Page without
detaching them from their original Family Page first."
In fact, you must do this to represent
an adoptee's relationship to her natural parents and her adoptive parents.

Fixing
Relationship Mistakes
The tone of the page,
speaking as it does about attaching "to a Family Page", presents a wholly
wrong model of what is going on. Children are attached to parents,
not pages. [RAD] |

Figure 6-5, page 217, (4th ed, 1997) shows the wrong
dialog for Merging Specific Individuals. The dialog shown is for including
individuals in a report (and other contexts). This
is the
correct dialog:
This error was pointed
out in November of 1997. Incredibly, the version 5 manual, instead of replacing
the illustration with the correct one, changed the caption (which was correct)
to match the illustration! Now the caption and illustration are both
wrong! (But they match.) p222-223 |

There is no indication to
which version of FTM the manual applies.
[McE: The version
is on the spine. RAD: OOOPS! But that seems to be the only
place that it is mentioned. As a library researcher, I am accustomed to
ignoring the spine entirely, as it usually is an abbreviated form
of the real title, which is on the — where else? — Title Page. |

Version 5 Figure 13-11 shows
a dialog (Merge Individuals) which is considerably different from the actual
product. The "buttons" mentioned in the figure (which seems to be the old
V4 dialog) don't exist in the product.

The manual cover shows an open
book with part of an Ancestor Tree on the left page and a Text Item
on the right. It is actually not possible to intersperse Text Items within
an Ancestor Tree as shown. Several people
have asked how this is done, having seen
it on the manual.
A small copy of this same
image appears at the top of the FTM site
home page.
