Family Tree Maker (TM) FAQ 035
Can I enter so-called "same sex" relationships into FTM?

Yes, it is possible to represent same sex "marriages" in FTM — at least it is in 4.4. As long as you accept that one partner will be called "husband" and the other "wife", and their union is referred to as "marriage" — no problem. There are two ways to accomplish this:
  1. Define both partners with their proper gender. Determine which one you wish to have the "correct" gender for "Husband" or "Wife". Select that person. Click People/Fix relationship mistakes/Attach Spouse. Find and select the proper partner.
  2. Define one partner as female and the other as male. After they are "hooked up" on a family page, click on the "parents of" tab of the one whose gender is incorrect and change it (the gender) on the family page thus displayed.
You may want to change the Marriage Beginning Status to something appropriate.
You can even define children of this pair!
If choosing "M" or "F" for gender is undesired, enter gender as "?".
