The FBK
files, produced automatically every time you open your file, are always
placed in the same folder as their companion FTW file. I know
of no way to change this. Here are some alternatives, though:
-
The production of FBK files is optional, controlled under Preferences/Startup.
You
could turn this off and erase all the FBK files and just cut backups
manually (ALT+F+B) at significant junctures in your work. These backups,
FBC files, are in compact form and placed in the FTW folder
by default.
-
You can make the FBK files invisible:
-
Click (Windows) Start/Settings/folders and icons
-
Click the View tab
-
Select folders Files & Folders/Hidden Files
-
Select either of the first two choices:
-
Do not show hidden or system files
-
Do not show hidden files
-
Show all files
-
Go back to the folder where all your FTW and FBK files
are. Select all the FBK files:
-
Hold down the CTL key and select them one by one. They will all
remain selected. Or,
-
List the files by type, select the first FBK file; hold down the
Shift
key and use the down arrow to select all the rest.
-
Right click any one of the selected files. Select Properties.
-
You should be viewing the General Properties dialog. Click hidden.
-
The selected FBK files should either disappear right away, or at least
"gray out". Click view/Refresh to make them disappear entirely.
Should you ever need one of these files, simply go back into the Hidden
Files dialog and select the last of the three choices to make all hidden
(and system) files visible again.
The Hidden attribute can be undone by making the files visible
again, then changing the file Properties.
