First of all, the
spouses are printed in the order of their marriage dates. Absent dates,
they are printed in the order of entry.
I assume, because you are having this problem, that you have entered
no dates for the marriages. So, you could delete these people and reenter
in the proper order. Or, you could enter the marriage dates.
If you don't know the dates, you can usually enter estimated dates
based on other, known dates, using the date qualifiers before
and after. Some examples: (assume that marriage order is
known)
What is known |
Procedure |
Date of one marriage |
Date the other marriage before or after
the known marriage as appropriate. |
Birth date of one child |
Date that marriage before the child's birth, and
the other marriage after. |
Birth dates of several children |
Date the marriages before the birth of their eldest
child. |
Death date of one spouse,
second marriage occurred after. |
Date first marriage before spouses death, and
survivor's second marriage after. |
Birth date of one or both spouses |
Date the marriage after ten years from the birth
date of the youngest (or only) spouse. |

Occasionally marriages get out of date order
(e.g. by import). To get FTM to re-order them you have to trick it into
noticing the unordered state. Do this by making any change to the marriage
date field – e.g. append a space. |
