This page contains topics and links
covering some of our favorite games. We are a real gaming family
from many of the traditional games to the latest and greatest
computer games. This page is divided into gaming sections
including;
plus a kfamily featured favorite Game. I have found several sources of free games and have tried a few of the on-(internet)-line games.
Our current featured game (of the moment) is a board
game that I have also recently found on the internet for the
computer and an Web Browser (java) version. Mancala is a simple
game that even our 4 year old can play and win against an adult.
There is no dice or cards, just stones and pockets. The game is
played by moving the stones around the pockets. The number of
stones moved per turn depends on the current number of stone in a
pocket. The object is to collect the most stones.
Imageware is a group that has an
Internet Web version of Macala that can be run by anyone with a
Java enabled Browser such as Netscape
3.0 or Microsoft 4.0.
There have a set of on-line
rules and the internet game.
Another Macala, that is a more primitive Internet Java version, is available from Herky Gottfried's site at Oregon State University. Another set of on-line rules was found at a MIT student's account. Be warned, these university accounts tend to disappear after a while. (Usually around June).
A Mini-Macala Freeware
version is available from Jeff Hartman & O.S. Software. Be
warn, that I have not yet checked this software out, so use it at
your own risk and then let me know!
Smartkids is another provider
of a computer software version of Macala. This
site provides other educational products. Though I haven't tried
it, they offer several sources for the board or a CD-ROM Macala
Products.
Window Solitary Card Game
WinSol Plus is a shareware solitaire card game for Windows. Similar to the version that comes standard with Windows with these enhancements: Cheating, Hints, Sound, user-definable game play, auto-play features, and much more.

The other day I found this great on-line hearts game. It allows multiple players to join in and play. When a player is missing or drops out the computer takes over for them until another person joins in. (I think the computer player peeks sometimes.) Another nice thing about this game is it does not require any new software on the player's part other than the current Netscape or Microsoft Browser.

The current CD-Rom game craze at the kfamily's
house is
from Lucasarts . This
is an adventure game that puts you into the middle of it all by
letting you directly control the actions of the Marshal. In the
animated world of Outlaws,
your wife is killed and daughter is kidnapped by a gang of bad
guys. To resuce the Marshal's daughter, you have to go through 10
levels of towns, runes, caves, mountians, mines, forts, hotels
and finally, the ranch house of the main bad guy Bob Graham and
all of his cronies. This is the state of the (commertial) art for
3-D computer animated gaming, with terrific music and sound
effects all rolled into a two CD set.
