Well, fall seems to be quickly replacing summer in our part of Ontario. Attendance at our division's weekly meetings is picking up, as members are back at school/work and no longer away on vacation. A few new members have also joined our division recently.
Tarmo Uukkivi unfortunately resigned from the Brigade recently. He was our Division Training Officer for the past couple of years. Our members would like to thank Tarmo for the excellent effort and contribution he made to our division, as well as for his great sense of humour.
Simone Knight has accepted the position of Training Officer for our division, and is hard at work preparing for this fall's training schedule...
Audrey Brumell is unfortunately required to step down from her position of Division Superintendent in the late-September/early-October time frame. This turn of events is due to new conflict of interest rules within the Brigade. Audrey works full time in the York Region Branch office, and so falls under the rules. Our division's members would like to thank Audrey for the leadership, enthusiasm, and experience she has given to the division, and hope she can continue to share them with us as a division member.

As you can probably tell, it's been a while since I updated this news... Here are some items of note:
Paul Irwin, Allan Dagget, Jim Knott, Doug Bolton, Chris Beelik, and Rob Dutton successfully completed the Advanced First Aid course, mid-November 97.
In January, Jim Knott spent about a week helping out with the St. John Ambulance disaster aid effort for the massive ice storm in eastern Ontario/south western Quebec. He represented our division most admirably!
In early February, Audrey Brumell and Tara Dwyer successfully completed the BAP Level 2 evaluator's course, and Simone Knight and Glen McAuley successfully completed the BAP Level 1 evaluator's course. Congratulations!

Frank and Mieke Jean-Marie are in the process of retiring and moving up to Elliot Lake for some well-deserved R&R... Both are original members of Newmarket 910 Division, and have contributed countless hours of service to the Division and to St. John Ambulance in York Region. FRANK AND MIEKE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT FRIENDSHIP, AND FOR YOUR SERVICE. WE WILL MISS YOU, AND WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL DROP BY FOR A VISIT WHENEVER YOU ARE IN THE AREA. BEST WISHES FOR YOUR RETIREMENT!
St. John Ambulance Brigade divisions from York Region and surrounding area assisted with Markham Stouffville Hospital's "Code Orange Simulation" on 8 April 98. Brigade members handled transport of simulated casualties (of a hypothetical school bus-transport truck crash) to the hospital's emergency department.
George Vesey and Glen Hobman, two of our newer members, have successfully passed the BAP for BTS Level 1. Congrats!

Congrats to Sergio Calderon, Jim Knott, Doug Bolton, and Rob Dutton for passing the BAP for BTS Level 2.

A hearty WELL DONE!!! goes out to Tara Dwyer, Glen McAuley, Paul Irwin, and Doug Bolton! They have just successfully completed the SJA NITDP instructor's course, which allows them to instruct courses in standard first aid and "below", and in CPR.

As you can probably tell, I've been REALLY negligent in updating our Division's web pages... Anyhow, the pages are now part of the St. John Ambulance Webring, and I'd like to thank Neil Iosson for all the work he's done in forming the ring.
Our Division would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Newmarket Veterans' Association for their donation of $1000 (for training supplies) and continued support of the Division!
Bad news: Tara Dwyer and Audrey Brumell have left our Division. Good news: Tara is the Superintendent and Audrey is the Training Officer of the (reconstituted) York Central 548 Division. We'll miss you, but it's not like we'll never see you again :-) Also, we know that you two will do a great job for your division and the York Region Branch!
