There are at least distinct two FENTON
lines in Bucks county, Pennsylvania. Members of both of these lines can
be found in the records of the associators of Bucks county as listed in
the Pennsylvania Archives. As was typical of most members of
Bucks county's Low Dutch community, the descendants of Joseph FENTON
& Maritje VAN DYK were universally patriotic. The names of their
sons are frequently found among the militia rolls. One of these, John,
rose to the rank of lieutenant by the end of the Revolutionary War,
eventually being elected major in 1786. Members of the other FENTON
line, descended from Ephraim FENTON & Mary BLACKSHAW, are more
commonly found on the lists of non-associators, or of associators
charged exercise, substitute & class fines.
