First Baptist Church of Smithfield Burns December 22, 1942
It wasn't until after World War II that the church was able to begin construction on the present facility and start worshiping there on Easter Sunday 1950.
Photographs appearing on this site were taken from the 1940s film shot by Fuller Rice during reconstruction.
Our church constructed a brick facade to display the steeple bell that hung in the original church before the fire. This facade was completed and dedicated on Sunday, December 19, 1999. The dedication marked the fifty-seventh anniversary of the fire.
