John Kirby Jackson fought in The Civil War, he was in Co. C, 51st VA Inf., Wythe Rifles.
There were two other company's in this regiment--Co. B, 51st VA Inf., Wharton Grays & Co. H, 63rd
VA Inf., Capt. G. W. B. Keesling's Co. This rehiment was organized in Wythville with men from
Amherst, Bland, Grayson, Nelson, Patrick, Tazwell, Wise and Wythe Counties.
They were under the command of Brigadier General Gabriel C. Wharton.
John Kirby joined May 1, 1862 in Wythville (resided in Grayson Co. then). He was captured in
Waynesboro March 2nd, 1865--transfered to Harpers Ferry, to Winchester, to Ft. Delware 3/12/65.
He was released there June 20, 1865.
His records say he had: sallow complexion

brown eyes
was: 5' 4" tall
