"ONE TAKEN, ONE LEFT"
John Darby regularly used Luke 17:26,27 as "absolute Scriptural proof" of his very own "Rapture theory" which he invented about 1830. Though the idea had surfaced previously, Darby was the first to categorize and actively promote said categorization, and so he is the primary source for what we find today in most of the churches. Dispensationalists still use his reasonings today.
Darby said it was plain to see from Luke that Believers would be "taken away" (Darbys' teaching on the Rapture), and sinners were to be "left behind": "one taken and another one left", thus facing "the great tribulation" and their "antichrist".
Here is the passage.
LUKE 17:26,27
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luke 17:26-27
...
I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Luke 17:34
Darby claimed that Noah and his family were those TAKEN and therefore "delivered from the Flood", and so Darby said this very passage was Prophetic of his "Rapture theory" where believers would also be "taken" by the "Darby Rapture" and "Delivered" from their "7 year Great Tribulation".
Sinners, Darby said, (the ones "eating and drinking", etc.) would NOT be "taken" and so would be "left behind" to face "the Great Tribulation". Sounds convincing so far, right?
But is what Darby said true? Is there another New Testament passage that records Yeshuas' same discourse in more detail?
Yes, there is! In Matthew Chapter 24. What does it say there?
COMPARING SCRIPTURE WITH SCRIPTURE
MATTHEW 24:37-39
"But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left." Matthew 24:37-40
"...THEY (the sinners) were eating and drinking...And knew not until the Flood came, and TOOK THEM (the sinners) all away: SO SHALL ALSO the Coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be TAKEN, and the other left."
Matthew recorded that Yeshua said SINNERS here (the ones "eating and drinking", etc.) were the ones TAKEN! Where? To safety with the "Darby Rapture"? No! To destruction!!!
Have you ever noticed that persons who preach Darbys' doctrine mention only the Luke passage, and never compare it to Matthews' account? Could this be deliberate? Why? Because Matthew DEFINES what to be "taken" means here and it the EXACT OPPOSITE RESULT of what Darby said it meant!
BELIEVERS HERE WANT TO BE "LEFT BEHIND"!
From Matthew we see what Luke was saying when he recorded what Yeshua meant to be "taken"! People were "taken" all right. Oy Vey! Who? The sinners (the ones "eating and drinking", etc.) were the ones TAKEN! Where to? They weren't "taken to blessing", they were all drowned in the Flood! Doomed!
In Grace, Noah and his family were all "LEFT BEHIND", entered the Ark and survived the Flood! Delivered!
This passage is saying that all the unbelievers will be "taken" by the Holy Angels to destruction. The Believers "left behind" will be as Noahs' family and "Left Behind" for The Rapture to be with Jesus!
"SECRET RAPTURE THEORISTS"
Proponents of any "secret Rapture" are also exposed here. Jesus said, "as in the days of Noah...so shall the Coming of the Son of man be." In no way was Noahs' Flood some kind of "secret"!
And further, the unbelievers who were "taken"; did they survive to go into a "great tribulation" to face an anti-Messiah figure? No. They were all "taken" and destroyed. Every last one.
...so shall the Coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24 says, "As in the days of Noah", the ones "taken" shall be destroyed. The ones "Left Behind" shall be Delivered.
