Return to Divine vs. "human" Page
GOODNESS
There are two separate and distinct kinds of "Good" in operation in this life. One is Divine Good which is the Product of Grace, the other is "huamn good" which is a product od "the flesh".
DIVINE GOOD
For it is G-d that Worketh in you, both to Will and to Do of [His] Good Pleasure. Philippians 2:13
The Saved individual Works Divine Good when G-d Works through him. All of this is Rewardable. He cannot "will" Divine Good. It comes through the Agency of G-d Alone. Man cannot boast in this whatsoever as it all comes from G-d as He Works out His Plan. (Ephesians 2:8,9)
"HUMAN GOOD"
"Human good" is a product of "the flesh". Unsaved individuals and carnal believers can perform this kind of "good". It is not rewardable.
"The world" sees these works as "good", and can reward man for a "job well done". These works can be religious, political, personal or group efforts. Man can attempt to justify himself by these works before other men.
Religious man tries to use "human good" to "work his way to Heaven". The "religious types" agree that he is definitely "a very good person" and assure him he is "heaven bound". They use "their will" in performing various "religious works" to attempt to justify thenselves, but end up being self-righteous and hypocrites; participants in false religions or a false teacher themselves. This is because they are either unable to comprehend True Grace, or have totally failed to understand it correctly because of false teachers.
Since they are never Assured of Salvation, they have to keep "working" day and night to "stay saved" (they think). They usually participate in programs that evaluate peoples' works to determine whether they are "saved" or "still saved". Many attempt to make themselves aloof from evaluation by "grandstanding".
Most devise various and sundry "religious works" to assure each other they are all "saved".
