Materials:
tea towel cut in half
worsted weight cotton (small amounts of MC and CC)
Hooks: 1.75mm and 4.0mm Conversion chart
Tapestry Needle
button

After towel is cut in half fold small hem (about 1/2 ") on unfinished end of towel, and sew across width of towel. This prevents fraying and gives it a finished look.

With tapestry needle evenly space 48 holes across hemmed end.

Row 1:With 1.75 mm hook join MC cotton with sl st in first hole. Work 1 sc in each hole across. ch 1 ,turn. (48 sts)
Row 2:Change to 4.0 mm hook. Work 1 row sc. ch 1 ,turn (48 sts)

(dec 1 sc): (Insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st) twice,
yo draw through 3 loops on hook.

Row 3: (dec 1 sc) across. Ch 1, turn. (24 sts)
Row 4: Work 1 row sc. Ch 1 , turn. (24 sts)
Row 5: (dec 1 sc )across. Ch 1, turn. (12 sts)
Rows 6 - 16: work sc in each st, Ch 1, turn
Finish off.

Using 4.0mm hook attach CC with sl st in first st worked in Row 1. Work border of sc up side 1 of band and across 5 st at top of band. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in remainder'of sts across top and then complete down side 2. Sl st in last st of MC on previous row.

Attach button so that ch 3 of edging works as button hook.
