NOTE: Marshall Monroe (Jack) PIGOTT, 23 JUL 1899 - 17 JAN 1975
Jack Pigott moved to Lake City, FL between 1934 and 1938. He
is mentioned as living in Lake City in 1938.
Early in his life Jack realized the importance of education.
He left his family farm in his early teen years to complete his
high school education while living with his uncle Edgar Johnson
in McComb, Mississippi. Though he didn't graduate from high
school until age 22, he continued his education at Draughn
Business College in Memphis, Tennessee while working for the
Illinois Central Railroad.
In early adulthood he lived in Walnut Grove, Mississippi where
he owned a wholesale grocery business. He also served at
President of a bank in Walnut Grove in the early years of the
Great Depression. He was proud of the fact that the bank
remained open while many others failed.
After moving to Florida in the mid 1930's he again established
a wholesale grocery business. This he sold in order to enter
the Navy during World War II. After the war he began a
building supply business, Pigott Wholesale Company, located on
N. Fifth St. in Lake City and worked as a general contractor.
