The hopeful riders stood one by one. Regal Enchantress, nervous boy, All gilded red by the setting sun. Dacia trembled as a silver foal Detached itself from the herd She stood speechless, silent-struck Till the unicorn said the first word, "I am Daren, you I Choose, For courage and strength of will," She went to her knees and hugged the foal, Unbelieving, still. Auralee watched, she could not stop A tiny, envious cry, That echoed in her lonely heart, "How could he have passed me by?" But suddenly, she heard a cry, "None of that, rider, see here," She turned to see a silver mare From midst the trees appear. The Dark Enchantress stood aloof, Expressionless, never a sign, But even she broke into a smile, At the white's call of "Lady mine," Rakshasi knew the black at once, When he stepped up to her side "Veritas," they said, in one accord, The bond could not be denied. |
Lined in a row by the meadow side, Gryphon eagerly scanned the meadow, For some sign of a likely foal, But nothing she saw, and sadly, she turned, Her hopes and wishes cold. Then up came a black, and he gave a laugh, A chord of the purest tone, "Gryphon, look and banish forever Your fears of being alone." Sellia was anxious, nervous, too As foal after foal found a friend, Sadly she looked at the near-empty field, And thought, "Here's another dead end." But suddenly a swirling circle of brown Ringed her in whirlwind flight It finally stopped to reveal a filly Black-maned, and brown coat bright. In the crowd of people and whinnying foals Cynderilla knew not where to go. But when up came Jason, she knew him as hers, Snow-mane, and coat of gold glow. To him these foals were as his own And Jaysen looked on with a father's pride And all the while his hand stroked The golden filly, Sunshane, by his side. |
